The aim of the Department of English is to give students competency in written and oral composition and in the interpretation and appreciation of literature. The Bachelor of Arts degree in English (233A/23.0101) consists of 36 elective hours in English above the freshman level, six of which may be applied toward satisfying the core curriculum humanities requirement. At least 24 semester hours must be at the 3000-level or above. The 36 semester hours must include three 2000-level survey courses (9 s.h.), one in British literature (ENG 2010, ENG 2020, or an appropriate offering of ENG 2510 or ENG 2515), one in American literature (ENG 2310, ENG 2320, or an appropriate offering of ENG 2510 or ENG 2515), and one in World literature (ENG 2030, ENG 2040, or an appropriate offering of ENG 2510 or ENG 2515), and four courses, (12 s.h.), at the 4000-level, at least two of which must be literature courses.
