Secondary Teacher Education Social Studies Education from Baptist Bible College and Seminary is a Campus Bachelor Teaching degree that prepares you for a Education career. In a world that continues to lose sight of God as Lord and Creator, we need educators who will consistently point their students to His sovereignty throughout history and in current society. Our Social Studies Education program will enable you to do just that. You'll study topics like government, sociology, economics, history and geography under highly qualified faculty who are passionate about helping you influence the next generation for Christ. Core courses We give you a strong foundation to understand and apply biblical truth through 42 hours of Bible and theology courses. A required set of General Studies courses supplements that foundation and enables you to consider the world in which you will minister. You will then build on this foundation with over 40 credit hours studying the specific disciplines of your field and determining how you can best apply your unique strengths, gifts, and abilities. The core courses of this program include the following: Teaching Social Studies in Secondary Schools History of Western Civilization and Thought I and II American History I and II The American Regime Philosophy of History Economic Concepts Politics and Society Global Cultures and Geography Making the program your own You'll receive top-level instruction and also gain important practical experience through classroom aiding and observing. Your senior year will include two periods of observation and teaching, one in a public school and one in a Christian school. This student teaching will occur under the supervision of qualified teachers . You will also be visited, counseled, and evaluated by a college supervisor. Our Student Teaching Seminar will prepare you for this important part of your education. Many options after graduation You will graduate having completed coursework equivalent to a double major in Bible and Social Studies Education , and will be awarded a B.S. in Bible. You will receive certification from the Association of Christian Schools International to teach Social Studies in grades 7-12. You will also be eligible to apply for Pennsylvania state certification, which will allow you to teach in public schools. The state of Pennsylvania shares certification reciprocity with many other states, most likely enabling you to teach in the state of your choice. Many graduates go further with master's and doctorate degrees . Some have chosen to pursue their studies in one of the seven programs offered in Christian School Education at Baptist Bible Graduate School. Other graduates have attended various graduate schools to study a wide range of programs including curriculum and instruction, counseling, and administration.
