Addiction Studies from Butte College is a Campus Certificate Counseling degree that prepares you for a Healthcare career. This program is designed to: 1. Prepare students for entry level employment in alcohol and drug treatment programs; 2. Provide training in alcohol and drug abuse counseling for students who seek employment with human service organizations; 3. Provide training for employed human services professionals who wish to expand their knowledge and skills. For success in this program the student must be mature, emotionally stable, and have strong writing and interpersonal skills. Non-abuse and non-dependency on chemicals, including alcohol, is required. The goal of this program is to develop basic competencies in counseling, case management, record keeping, treatment planning, pharmacology and physiology of substance abuse-dependency, and social service systems. The Certificate of Achievement and major in Addiction Studies includes the course work and Supervised Field Work Practicum (255 hours) required by the California Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (CAADAC) and the California Association of Alcohol and Drug Educators (CAADE) for certification (250 hours).
