The undergraduate program has four major components: ?Introduction to Biomedical Engineering (EBME 105): This freshman course provides students with an overview of biomedical engineering research and applications, with substantive content that does not require advanced knowledge of engineering , mathematics, physical sciences, or biomedicine. ?The Engineering Core provides a broad background in mathematics, sciences, and engineering . All undergraduate students in the Case School of Engineering complete the Engineering Core. ?The BME Core integrates engineering with biomedical science to solve biomedical problems. Hands-on experience in BME is developed through the undergraduate laboratory and project courses. ?The BME Specialty Sequences develop depth in a specific area, including orthopaedic and polymeric biomaterials, biomechanics, devices & sensors for biomedical instrumentation, biomedical imaging and computing, and biomedical systems & control. Each of these specialty sequences develops specific biomedical engineering skills that are most often required for positions in industry and for admission to medical school and graduate school. In addition, undergraduate students may select open electives for more educational breadth or depth, or to meet entrance requirements of medical school or other professional career choices.
