Cardiovascular Technology is a health technology profession centered on the diagnosis and treatment of patients with cardiac diseases. A cardiovascular technologist performs examinations at the request or under direct supervision of a physician, is proficient in the use of analytical equipment, and provides a foundation of data from which a correct anatomic and physiologic diagnosis may be made. Students will take the national Registry in Cardiovascular Technology before graduation. Cardiovascular technologists may pursue career opportunities within hospitals, physicians' offices, medical clinics, mobile outreach companies, cardiac equipment companies or research groups. Should there be more qualified applicants than spaces for students; candidates will be admitted based on the grade point average for the courses listed above plus the score on the PSB Health Occupations Aptitude Test. The grade point average (4.00 scale) will be converted to a 400 point scale and added to the score of the Aptitude test (maximum score 365). A student must maintain a 3.00 grade point average in each Cardiovascular Technology major course to progress in the program. A criminal background check is required. A student who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor may be admitted to the Cardiovascular Technology program, but such a conviction may prohibit one from being accepted into a clinical training site. A student may be required to show proof of Hepatitis B vaccination before being placed in a clinical site.
