The Building Inspection Technology Associate of Applied Science (AAS) program has a two-year (seven-term) program for those new to and experienced in the field. As a graduate, you may qualify for State of Oregon and international certification as a building inspector or plans examiner at the residential and/or commercial level, depending upon your experience and tests taken. The certification tests are all an additional cost. There is a need for certified building inspectors and plans examiners working for public and private agencies. If you have some experience in the field, you may qualify after you graduate as a construction manager or clerk-of-the-works, or perform similar functions in other jobs. Students completing the AAS will: ? Identify various jobs and associated work performed in a building department to gain employment. ? Use appropriate interpersonal communication skills to achieve code compliance. ? Perform inspections of buildings at various stages of construction and write correction notices and reports referencing current building codes. ? Be prepared to take State of Oregon OIC, MHI, PCI and International Code Council (ICC) Codes Certification tests. ? Identify different building materials and methods of construction currently used in the building industry. ? Read and interpret blueprints and assess their compliance to the various codes.
