Engineering Technology from College of DuPage is a Campus Associate Engineering General degree that prepares you for a Engineering career. The engineering field has seen standards of preparation rise and broaden in the last 10 to 20 years while more responsibility has been assumed by the engineering aide or technologist. In years past, an engineer's training was more practice oriented. Now the well-prepared engineering technologist can perform many of the tasks formerly done by the graduate engineer. The technologist must know the language and practice of the engineer but is not necessarily qualified to initiate and take primary responsibility for engineering analysis and design. The technologist is more likely to work in the operating areas of engineering such as production, construction, quality control, testing, sales and service. The job market for engineering technology is strong. Although the mathematics and science requirements are not as rigorous for engineering technology as compared to engineering, facility in these areas is a requirement for success. Mathematics through the second calculus course is a minimum for engineering technology programs. Most graduates of College of DuPage's Engineering Technology program transfer to baccalaureate-granting institutions. Many technology credits apply to the baccalaureate degree , and students should consult an adviser as their goals become more specific. Southern Illinois University, Milwaukee School of Engineering , Bradley University and other schools offer bachelor's degrees in engineering technology. Bachelor's degrees in industrial technology also are offered by many Illinois state universities.
