It also encourages interdisciplinary work in programs such as Latin American Studies, the Program in Literature, Medieval and Renaissance Studies and Women's Studies. Areas of specialization in French include all historical fields as well as the emergent literatures of francophone Africa and the Caribbean and Quebec. Areas of specialization in Spanish also include all historical fields as well as Amerindian culture, and Latino/Chicano literatures. Critical methodologies include the relation of literature to society, history, and philosophy, semiotics, feminism, Marxism, psychoanalysis, postcolonial theories, linguistics , and computers in the humanities.
