Since its origination in 1956, the Manufacturing Tooling Technology program has developed a reputation as a national leader in the precision machining and tooling industries. In this program, students develop a solid technical foundation through the application of precision machining and tooling processes. Students learn to apply relevant mathematical calculations, interpret engineering drawings and CAD data, utilize precision metrology equipment, plan machining processes, specify tooling and equipment requirements, utilize machining equipment (including manual and CNC equipment) and apply metallurgical processes. CNC courses take students through 2-D manual G-code programming, 2-D and 3-D conversational programming and complex 3-D CAD/CAM programming. All Manufacturing Tooling Technology courses feature project-based learning in well-equipped facilities. Lab time alone accumulates to nearly 1,000 hours of applied experience. Course projects focus on processing and problem solving and take students through the costing, designing, building, setupt, tryout, and troubleshooting of jigs and fixtures, metal stamping dies and plastic molds.
