Biology from Florida Atlantic University is a Campus Bachelor Biology degree that prepares you for a Science career. Bachelor of Arts in Biology (BA) The BA degree is intended to provide maximum flexibility for students pursuing study in interdisciplinary areas such as environmental science or secondary school teaching. Bachelor of Science in Biology (BS) Bachelor of Science in Biology (BS) The BS degree is recommended for students planning to be professional biologists in industry or governmental service or for graduate work in the biological sciences. Students interested in the following areas should pursue the BS degree in Biology: Premed/Pre Professional, Marine Biology, Ecology, Zoology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology or Biotechnology. The current Bachelor of Science in Biology (BS) consists of a three tier system. All students who are interested in the BS degree in Biology must complete all of the courses in Tier I. A total of 27 credits must be completed between Tiers II and III. (A minimum of 12 credits must be completed from Tier II). Please check with the department of biological sciences if you have further questions. Students working towards the BS in Biology can choose from the below areas of emphasis. Premed/Pre professional: Intended for students who have an interest or desire to enter a Health Professions Graduate Program (medical, dental, veterinary, optometry, pharmacy, physician Assistant, etc). Marine Biology: Intended for students who have an interest in the study of marine organisms, their behaviors, and their interactions with the environment. Marine biologists study the plants, animals, and protists of our estuaries, coasts, and oceans, ranging from whales to microscopic algae and bacteria's well as studying marine organisms and their biological processes within the context of their natural environment. Ecology and Organismic Biology: Intended for students who have an interest in the scientific study of interactions of organisms with one another and with the physical and chemical environment. Modern ecology relies heavily on experiments, both in laboratory and in field settings. This track is also intended for students interested in the study of animal life. It covers areas ranging from the structure of organisms to the sub-cellular unit of life. Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Biotechnology: Intended for students who have an interest in the scientific study of the use of living organisms or their products to modify human health and the human environment, the scientific study of microorganisms and the scientific study of the structure, function, and makeup of biologically important molecules.
