Program Description The Master's Degree in Applied Social Research targets students who want to acquire the skills associated with a master's degree for career purposes but do not want to pursue a doctoral degree . The program may be completed in twelve months. When students finish, they will have mastered research skills that open doors to jobs in corporations, government, and non-profit organizations. This major differs from our traditional MS program where students write a master's paper and typically continue on to a doctoral program. Curriculum The curriculum consists of 33 required credit hours. A minimum of 21 hours must be taken in the Sociology Department. The remaining 12 hours may be taken in sociology or another area with approval. Of the total of 33 hours, at least 15 hours must consist of research methods or statistics, with a minimum of nine in sociology (up to six hours may be taken in other departments.) Any other courses in sociology may be taken to complete the 33 hours, including research methods, statistics, theory, or substantive courses and seminars.
