Description of Major The Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship in the College of Business coordinates the Entrepreneurship major. The Jim Moran Institute was formed to provide free consulting services to current entrepreneurs and to provide learning opportunities for students. Through the Jim Moran Institute, entrepreneurship students have the opportunity to interact with and learn from successful entrepreneurs. The Entrepreneurship major is a redesigned, highly competitive, 3-year curriculum. In the first year of the curriculum (typically, your sophomore year at FSU), you will learn how to start and harvest a micro-business. In the next two years, you will learn the advantages and costs of the various sources of venture capital and the process of obtaining it. You will also focus on opportunity recognition, market research, and feasibility. You will study technology commercialization, financial analysis, legal issues, and human resource management. During the final year of the curriculum, you will develop a formal business plan. In the first two years at FSU, students should take courses in the following four areas: Liberal Studies (general education) requirements, Gordon Rule Writing requirement, Multicultural Course requirements, and Prerequisite Coursework requirements. Some courses may fulfill requirements in multiple areas. Electives in the first two years should focus on gaining additional exposure to the social and behavioral sciences, and on improving communication and analytical reasoning skills.
