THE ROLE OF THE RADIATION THERAPIST The Radiation Therapist assists in the treatment of patients with cancer. Radiation is directed at the tumor site under strictly controlled conditions in an attempt to cure or palliate the disease. The Radiation Therapist positions the patient for treatment, performs or assists in performing the necessary mathematical calculations to determine the proper radiation dose under the supervision of a physician and delivers the required radiation utilizing highly complex equipment. There is a nationwide demand for skilled, registered Radiation Therapists that is expected to increase over the next decade.
