The Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology (MCB) provides students with a sophisticated and rigorous program in a multidisciplinary environment, enabling students to become independent, creative, and productive researchers. After admission to the PhD Program in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology , most students are assigned to one of two training programs based on their particular research interests and academic background: Genetics and Genomics (GGTP) or Molecular , Cellular , and Chemical Biology (MCCB) Program. GGTP combines the resources of Molecular and Cellular Biology with Chemistry and Chemical Biology . MCCB combines the resources of Molecular and Cellular Biology with Organismic and Evolutionary Biology . In both program tracks, students in both programs spend the first year taking courses and completing research rotations. By the end of the first term, students select a faculty dissertation advisor and begin independent research. A few students will be admitted directly into a third program track, Engineering and Physical Biology (EPB), which combines the resources of both life science and physical science departments.
