Spoken in twenty-nine countries by more than 450 million people, Spanish is the primary language of the Americas and the second tongue of the United States. The Spanish Program at Idaho State University encourages proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing Spanish by engaging students directly in the Spanish-speaking world. We offer courses in Peninsular, Spanish American, and US Latino / Hispanic literatures and cultures, as well as courses in linguistics, translation, business, and the professions. In addition, many of our students enter Study Abroad programs through universities in Spain and Latin America where we honor agreements for the transfer of credits. The Department of Languages and Literatures works closely with medical and court interpretation programs, government agencies, and the College of Business to keep students abreast of demands for their skills in the public and private sector. Many students earn a double major in Spanish and another of the university's fine programs in Health Care, Computer Science, Political Science, Business, Anthropology, English, Law Enforcement, International Studies or Education.
