Social Studies Teacher Education from Ithaca College is a Campus Bachelor Teaching degree that prepares you for a Education career. Our social studies teacher education program prepares you to share your passion for history with students at the secondary school level. In your first year you'll visit schools in a variety of settings; urban and rural, large and small. You'll also participate in a series of field experiences that give you solid preparation for teaching, and be supported by a faculty mentor who will track your progress throughout your four years of study. As a senior, your classroom placements -- one in middle school, the other in high school -- will be with teachers chosen to best match your strengths and weaknesses. These teachers often become mentors to our students. Once you complete the program requirements, you receive initial New York State teacher certification for grades 7 through 12. We believe that scholars make the most gifted teachers , and students in the teacher education program are among the department's strongest. Along with courses in pedagogy and learning, they study U.S. history, world history, and the social sciences. They graduate with honors, win awards, and get scholarships. And when they leave, they're just as prepared to enter graduate programs as they are to teach.
