LMU's Liberal Studies (Elementary Education) major prepares students for successful careers as schoolteachers. The major enables students to complete a bachelor's degree and receive a California preliminary multiple-subject teaching credential within four years. 
 The program was approved by and incorporates the standards of the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Ninety-five percent of LMU students majoring in Liberal Studies (Elementary Education) graduate having already passed the CSET (California Subject Examination for Teachers). These graduates are ready to work in either the K-6 or K-12 classroom, depending on which of two tests they take. What Do Liberal Studies (Elementary Education) Majors Do? Majors take advanced courses in various academic disciplines including social sciences , history, arts and humanities, language studies , mathematics, science, and human development. This program of coursework is coordinated and offered in collaboration with the teaching credential program offered by LMU's School of Education. Majors learn to synthesize subject content in the liberal arts, professional content related to classroom teaching, and educational policies. They learn to apply reading, writing, and research skills, develop skills to apply academic concepts to practical teaching contexts, and analyze and evaluate academic theories.
