What is Latin American , Latino/a, and Caribbean Studies? Open to all undergraduates, Latin American, Latino/a, and Caribbean Studies (LAS) is an interdisciplinary program that introduces students to Latin America from mutually enriching perspectives in the humanities, fine arts, social and physical sciences. Courses examine and analyze Latin America's cultures, economies, social and political systems, literature, art, music, history, and geography across the hemisphere. Opportunities for study abroad and service learning with Latin American communities in Ohio promote the active application of international knowledge to issues vital to today's changing world. What are the features of Miami's program? Interdisciplinary The interdisciplinary framework of the LAS program brings together insights and applications from various disciplines (including business, humanities, natural and social sciences), staff, students, and community members who have scholarly, professional and personal interests in Latin America. Study abroad: The LAS program highly values study abroad in all Latin American contexts. Each year Miami offers numerous Summer and/or Spring break workshops in such locations as the Bahamas, Brazil, Costa Rica, Dominica, Haiti, Mexico, and Venezuela.
