Students have the option of an Associate of Applied Science Degree . Program Objectives Demonstrate knowledge of hazards and related safety practices associated with diesel mechanics . Perform tasks related to entry-level employment in the diesel technology field. Demonstrate an understanding of personal and work characteristics that contribute to an effective job performance. Use communication skills appropriate to diesel mechanics. Apply the theory of diesel mechanics to specific jobs using critical thinking/reasoning and the ability to work Use mathematical data and reasoning skills in relation to diesel mechanics. About the Union Pacific Railroad A graduate who successfully completes the Railroad Operations tracts along with the rest of the AAS degree requirements in Diesel Technology with a Railroad Operations Emphasis and is later hired as an Apprentice Diesel Electrician, the Union Pacific will reimburse the student for half of 85 percent of tuition (not to include fees, tools and uniform expenses) after 90 days of service. Once the employee has 18 months of service, Union Pacific will then reimburse the remaining half of the 85 percent tuition. At this point, the employee is then qualified as a Journeyperson and will receive a pay raise.
