Program Overview The College of Education at ORU is committed to providing the opportunity for individuals responding to the call of God to become \\\"transformed professional Christian educators.\\\" The undergraduate education program is designed to offer preparation for professional public and private responsibilities in the field of education throughout the world. The College of Education administers a diverse but cohesive teacher education program designed to train qualified teachers for elementary and secondary schools. The three segments of teacher preparation, general education, specialized subject area education and professional education are integrated to produce graduates with comprehensive teaching preparation. Each licensure area combines courses from general education , major and professional education. All students who wish to major in education or obtain a standard teaching certificate must be admitted to the Professional Education Program. For those students majoring in education or seeking a standard teaching certificate, admission to the program is a prerequisite for approval to student teach. Education majors must be admitted before they have competed 75 hours toward their education degree . In the elementary education major students focus on the history, philosophy, profession, procedures and practices of the American education and how it relates to social , political, religious and economic factors. Students explore the current issues in elementary education and focus on biblical principals of teaching. Students choosing the elementary education major at ORU earn a licensure in elementary education and have the choice of three areas of concentration: English as a second language, early childhood education or special education mild-moderate eisabilities.
