The Health Education program at Plymouth State University prepares students to work in a variety of educational, community and medical settings, including public and private schools, hospitals, managed care organizations, insurance companies, volunteer agencies and public and private work sites. Content areas of health education: Nutrition/Fitness Disease/ Mental Health Sexuality and Family Life Substance use and abuse Community Health/Personal Health Safety and Fist Aid Environmental Health Consumer Health Options are available in Health Promotion and School Health , with K-12 teacher certification. The Health Promotion option prepares students to work in a variety of settings with all ages. A 6-12 credit, approximately 300-600 hour internship program is required. The School Health option prepares graduates to teach health education in public school settings. Students may also choose to create their own focus area in health for future medical fields (ie. nursing, dietician/nutritionist), alternative health careers (ie. doctor of naturopathic or chiropractic medicine or massage therapy) or careers in counseling, social work or health-fitness.
