The qualifying examination, as well as the completion of any course deficiencies specified by the advisory committee, must be completed before the student takes the PhD Preliminary Examination. PhD students in anthropology must take a minimum of 48 semester hours of graduate-level courses (plus the dissertation) beyond the Bachelor\\\'s degree . The student (in conjunction with his/her major professor and advisory committee) will develop a Plan of Study with considerable depth in selected areas of specialization using courses and seminars in this department as well as other departments.
