You may join us for one more year that includes all of the academic courses necessary to earn your Associate Degree, as well as four more sophisticated automotive courses, i.e.: Manual and Automatic Transmission/Transaxles, Driveline and 4x4 Operations, and Diesel Engine Technology - these are the automotive technologies that will raise your knowledge and experience level in support of your following a more profitable and advanced career path in the motor vehicle repair industry. All of our automotive classes are geared toward taking and successfully completing the ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Exams. Along with your enhanced automotive repair knowledge, you will leave STCC with an Associate's Degree , which will support your future aspirations of career advancement above and beyond the automotive technician's level, as well as position you to go on for your Bachelor's degree should you so desire at some point down the road. All students are required to take our English, Reading and Mathematics placement examinations. Placement test results will be discussed with the administrative staff of the program during the application process to assure the appropriate registration for any remedial classes is accomplished. Upon the successful completion of requirements for this program, graduates will earn an Associate Degree in Automotive Technology. Automotive Technology Program Educational Goals: Understanding the importance of safety and accident prevention in the automotive service facility. Describe the purpose of the laws concerning personal and environmentally safe handling of hazardous waste. Communicate the individual's responsibility to provide professional appearance, behavior and communication skills. Reinforce the importance of using the library of information available to research all areas of automotive service. Communicate the importance of accurate measurements for diagnostics and determining the serviceability of components. Describe the requirements for automotive service excellence (ASE) certification as an automotive technician and as a master automotive technician. Define information that should be completed on repair orders, accurately describing customer issues in pursuit of a satisfactory repair.
