Art and Design Photo Imaging from Towson University is a Campus Bachelor Photography degree that prepares you for a Art and Design career. Students should meet with their adviser to determine recommended course sequence based on individual needs and course availability. Students will graduate with an advanced understanding of and capability in aesthetic/artistic creativity and as it concerns contemporary photo imaging - including an understanding of design, composition, light, and color. They will have a proficiency in traditional, alternative, digital image media technology and motion technology. The two areas of focus offered (60 credit BA/BS and 81 credit BFA requirements) allow each major an extended period of immersion in photographic imaging ? the core concentration courses are on 4 levels which can be integrated laterally with other courses of related interest. Each student is afforded the opportunity to invest multiple semesters in portfolio building at the top end of the curriculum. A cooperative course acquaints students with real world technology by using regional professionals in their studios, service bureaus, and digital labs to provide them with field experiences on a rotating basis, as well as numerous visits to regional graduate programs to encourage the pursuit of the MFA in Photo Arts. Moreover, each student commits to a one, two or three semester long internship experience with a working professional in a chosen photo imaging specialty or assists in labs and/or in actual classroom teaching. Students have gained acceptance to numerous MFA programs such as Pratt, Art Institute of Chicago, Syracuse, NYU, MICA, Savannah College of Art, UDEL etc. Students have advanced into corporate, museum, educational and commercial areas with both salaried positions and stand-alone free-lance operations. As undergrads, students have won awards and published in nationwide venues such as Photo Forum, Agfa Journal, etc.; students are required to exhibit their work in local shows throughout the region and have exhibited in museums and galleries such as the BMA, Corcoran Gallery of Art, MAP and the Creative Alliance.
