The ASDOH advanced education program in orthodontics is a 26-month plan of study leading to a Certificate in Orthodontics. Through biological and clinical sciences education, the program is designed to prepare students to treat a wide range of orthodontic problems, including cranio-facial anomalies like cleft-lip and cleft palate as well as orthognathic/orthodontic problems. The program accepts five (5) students per year. It is clinic-based with approximately 60 percent of student's time devoted to clinical treatment, 20 percent to didactic instruction, and the remainder to research and teaching. Patient care begins within students' first weeks and culminates with comprehensive case examinations at the end of the final year. The broad clinical experience is complemented by didactic studies in basic clinical sciences that meet or exceed the requirements of the American Dental Association.
