The chemistry major at Albany State University is provided with a solid background in fundamental chemical principles as well as hands-on laboratory experience and training using modern chemical instrumentation. This instrumentation is available for teaching and research in chemistry and include a 400 MHz nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer, an infrared Spectrometer (IR), two High Pressure Liquid Chromatographs (HPLC), several UV- Vis Spectrometers, an Auto-System Gas Chromatograph, a GC-Mass Spectrometer, high speed centrifuges, a spectrofluorophotometer , an Atomic Absorption Spectrometer, an Atomic Force Microscope (AFM), Scanning Transmission Electron Microscope (STEM), Polarograph , refractometers , and electrochemical and electrophoresis equipment as well as computer workstations and chemical modeling software. The curriculum is taught by four full time faculty, all with the Ph.D. in chemistry. Current faculty members are trained in Analytical Chemistry Biochemistry, Computational Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Physical Chemistry.
