Certified Fiber Optics Specialist from Allen County Community College - Iola KS is a Campus Certificate Communication Technologies degree that prepares you for a Communications career. This 2-day (16-hour) program is designed to offer advanced training to anyone involved with the testing and maintenance of fiber optics networks. It is strictly a practical course, but includes more background information than is typical in basic courses to allow the student to understand what they are testing and how to troubleshoot problems in long-haul and short-haul fiber optics networks. One of the most important points of the program is to teach current day technology. Too many courses teach obsolete theory and practice, out of obsolete textbooks! This course will teach differences between applications (telco/CATV/LAN, etc.) so the student can intelligently work in today's fiber optics cable environment. Another focal point in the program is to offer a general, easy to understand approach to fiber optics testing standards. We attempt to explain the variety of testing standards, equipment and technological approaches used in fiber network testing and how to choose among them. Many courses are criticized because they are too specific or prejudiced to one application, technology or manufacturer. We explore the overall spectrum of testing and maintenance of fiber optics networks and strive to provide a better comfort level for our students with regards to testing and maintenance of both single mode and multi mode fiber optics networks. Subject matter includes a detailed study of ANSI/TIA/EIA-526-14A, OTDR Fundamentals and Uses, OTDR Vs. Insertion Loss Testing, Return Loss Testing, and Proper maintenance of High-Performance Fiber Networks. View more details on Allen County Community College .
