Design and Visual Communications course emphasizes design and multimedia from a problem-solving point of view, as you receive training in color theory and correction, input/output techniques, and tools for graphic design, photography, videography and multimedia image compositing. Using state of the art digital imaging, digital video, illustration and page layout software and equipment, students learn to apply their creativity to communications media. Projects include logo/identity design , perspective illustration, fine art and commercial photography, poster design, packaging design , advertising design, web design and human interface design, print production theory and techniques, storyboarding, filming and editing video footage and many other assignments that require creativity, technology, communication skills and the ability to meet tight production deadlines. You'll also do projects that involve research, analytical and free style writing, and oral presentations, giving you a solid basis of communication through writing, reading, listening, and speaking. Students will explore current and controversial events and psychological research related to the marketing and branding of products and services. This gives the student a deeper understanding of how the media created affects the people who experience it. Upon completion of the program, each student will turn their digital art into a complete multimedia experience, gathering all of their designs , animations, video, sounds, and graphics into a CD-ROM portfolio. Once students obtain mastery-level design skills, they will have the opportunity to participate in the management and operation of a student run design business called ?Digitize?. In partnership with YEA (Young Entrepreneurs Alliance) the students provide design services to the MetroWest area. Students will gain first hand experience in creating a business plan, meeting with clients, determining marketing objectives and tactics and making professional presentations of design proposals and solutions.
