Learning Objectives The student will: * Perform the duties of a medical assistant and act as an essential member of the contemporary health care team. * Apply knowledge of the normal human body and the body in a diseased or injured state to patient treatment. * Describe both the clinical and administrative responsibilities of the medical assistant as they apply to patient care. * Identify and critically interpret health care research and resource data in an effort towards the enhancement of patient care. * Use problem-solving and critical thinking skills to make rapid decisions while providing quality patient care. * Communicate effectively verbally, nonverbally and in writing. * Demonstrate knowledge of Standard and Universal Precautions and OSHA regulations as they pertain to the medical assistants' standard of practice. * Demonstrate sensitivity to patient diversity in the areas of culture, ethnicity, religion, linguistics and socioeconomic background.
