The first, "International Relations ," surveys the major theories or approaches used by scholars of international relations for understanding and interpreting world politics. It also introduces students to such issues as war and peace, security, human rights, political economy, and north-south tensions. The "Comparative Politics" course introduces students to a range of issues in the study of comparative politics, including nationalism and national identity; economic development; civic culture; constitutionalism and civil society; statecraft and the conditions in which it operates, democratization and social capital; and modernization and culture change.
