International Studies from Benedictine University is a Campus Bachelor International studies degree that prepares you for a Science career. The International Studies major is a Social Science program focusing on the various aspects and consequences of globalization. With equal emphasis on political science, economics, and anthropology, the program seeks to impart detailed understanding of the nature and impact of continued expansion of economic, political and cultural interdependence. The concepts and institutions surrounding such economic matters as international trade, finance and development, political matters such as democratization, war, terrorism, ethnic conflict, diplomacy and global governance, and anthropological matters such as cultural imperialism and cultural erosion, social movements and migrations, are the realities of the 21st Century and are the heart of this program. Students will receive equal training in and are expected to pay equal attention to the political science, international business and economics, and anthropology components of this program. A short-term study abroad experience is required, and one of semester-length or longer is strongly encouraged of all majors. The program is designed to provide theories, concepts and tools to enable students to: 1. Analyze and understand the nature and implications of political, social and economic interdependence; 2. Identify and evaluate international political, social and economic policies, problems and solutions; 3. Study emerging markets and the problems of economic development in the context of complex global interdependence; 4. Enable active citizenship that inspires attention to domestic responses to global interdependence; 5. Gain awareness and understanding of the connections between economic and political institutions and issues of political and economic development, including democratization; 6. Study new challenges and opportunities related to ethnic strife, nationalism, and terrorism and their connections to uneven distributions of political, social and economic power; 7. Foster greater cross-cultural sensitivity and understanding, in part through study abroad experiences and language training; 8. Enable graduates to perform effectively in professional and career positions in government, business, and international organizations; 9.
