This option offers students an opportunity to expand upon the Complementary Care certificate program. It is designed for those who wish to gain (1) additional hours in massage and other forms of complementary health care, (2) competency in Eastern massage methods, and/or (3) an associate degree in this field. In addition to instruction in Swedish massage, the basis of the certificate program, this option adds coursework in shiatsu and the philosophy and practice of other Eastern health care techniques. It also strengthens the student's understanding of muscle anatomy and neurology as it relates to massage therapy, and continues to emphasize techniques of self-care and injury prevention for the massage therapy practitioner. Potential students who meet all admission requirements are accepted into the program on a space available basis at any time. Applicants who do not initially meet the requirements may take courses to become eligible by enrolling in Berkshire Community College's Liberal Arts Pre-Complementary program.
