The curriculum offers students a well-rounded preparation in the theories, principles and skills needed for graduate study in mass communication and for the expanding opportunities in communication careers. The goal of the communication major is to improve the writing, speaking and visual-communication skills of students by 1. providing instruction and practice in the skills needed in modern mass media; 2. developing an overall understanding of the field of communication, including the history and organization of media, as well as their social, cultural and economic impacts; and 3. instilling an appreciation of communication as an integral part of a liberal-arts education. A communication major includes at least 39 hours. Students must complete the communication core and concentrations.
