Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering from Boston University is a Campus Master Aeronautical engineering degree that prepares you for a Engineering career. The Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering (AME) at Boston University provides students with a strong grounding in fundamental aspects of the discipline while providing ample exposure to interdisciplinary frontiers in nanotechnology, mechatronic systems and intelligent machines, and biomedical applications involving ultrasonic imaging, lithotripsy (therapeutic use of high-energy sound waves), distraction osteogenesis (programmed bone growth), and robotic surgery. Students learn the foundations and the most advanced technologies in both aerospace and mechanical engineering . Students pursuing a Masters degree choose either the Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering track upon applying to the program. Both tracks require a minimum of 32 credit hours to complete the degree and are similarly structured. They require 8 credits of Concentration electives, 4 credits of Breadth elective, 4 credits of Math elective, 8 credits of general electives, and 8 credits of advanced coursework. Students have a choice in the advanced coursework, they can either choose to do research with a supported faculty member and write a thesis, or they can choose to take two upper-level graduate courses. All coursework and research must have the consent of their advisor. Concentrations are as follows: Fluid Mechanics & Acoustics or Solid Mechanics, Dynamics, & Control. AME faculty members have special interests and expertise in acoustics (waves, vibrations, and aeroacoustics); fluid mechanics (experimental, theoretical,and CFD); dynamics, control, and mechatronic systems; micro- and nano-electromechanical systems (MEMS and NEMS); and biomedical aspects and applications of mechanical engineering . The department offers degree programs in aerospace engineering and mechanical engineering . Graduates are well prepared to work successfully as practicing engineers in a wide range of fields, including structures, dynamics, control, thermal and fluid sciences, saeronautics and astronautics, and propulsion. The department has a long history of sending its graduates on to leadership roles in industry and government organizations as well as to the world’s top universities for advanced training.
