Students at Brevard Community College acquire strong basic skills in drawing, figure drawing, painting, pottery, design, and sculpture, along with art history. Our art program focuses on traditional, fundamental, disciplines. In order for a student to find their own voice and style, he or she needs a solid foundation in classical, tough-to-learn fundamentals. Fine art training at Brevard Community College can lead to a gratifying career in the fine arts. Our graduates have the option to pursue advanced degrees or become an independent artist in their own studio, providing cultural strength to the community as well. To receive an Associates in Arts (AA) the student must complete a minimum of 60 semester hours of college level credit with 36 hours of general education. For those students who are planning to major in art the first two years of study will reflect the basic foundations. Each main semester (fall and spring) an Art major should be enrolled in a minimum of 6 to 8 credits of Art classes. Therefore, students who are planning to transfer to a university with a art emphasis will need to take a minimum of 24 semester hours of Art classes. Six of the general education credits must be in the Humanities. The Art Major may claim one of their two art history classes as 3 hours of their humanities requirements.
