The Program: This program is designed to prepare students to work in a dental assisting capacity under the supervision of the dentist. Work may be performed in a private dental office, group practice, specialty office, or dental clinic. Students will also be prepared for the Certified Dental Assisting (CDA) examination. BATC is currently the only school in the Box Elder, Cache, and Rich county region providing CDA level training; the CDA credential is nationally recognized for dental assisting excellence. The curriculum is directed toward development of the skills, competencies, knowledge,and attitudes necessary to assist the dentist at chairside, and maintain and manage the dental office and reception area. The major thrust of the class is to teach the basics of four-handed dentistry. The students learn to chart; pass instruments; position patients;expose, process, and mount radiographs; pour models; mix dental materials; and assist with general dental procedures. In addition to attending class, the students spend 300 hours in a dental office where they have the opportunity to practice the skills they have learned.
