Dietetics from Brigham Young University - Provo is a Campus Bachelor Dietetics degree that prepares you for a Healthcare career. Program Purpose The purpose of the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) is to develop informed and productive citizens of the family, community, and nation who are prepared to perform effectively in supervised practice and to make meaningful contributions to the dietetics profession. Graduates of the Didactic Program in Dietetics will: 1. Excel in Dietetic Internships (DI) or other professional pursuits through acquisition of current knowledge and development of dietetics skills. 2. Demonstrate the desire and skills for continuing education and personal growth. 3. Apply ethical and moral values in personal and professional life. Following prerequisite courses, the Didactic Program in Dietetics consists primarily of dietetics course work at the junior and senior level. The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Dietetics Education of the American Dietetic Association. Following graduation, students must gain acceptance into and complete a dietetic internship to qualify for the national examination required for Registered Dietitian (RD) status. Career opportunities fall into the three primary areas of Medical Nutrition Therapy, Foodservice Systems Administration, and Community/Public Health Nutrition. In addition to the planned curriculum, students are encouraged to belong to the Student Dietetic Association (SDA). In SDA, students develop leadership and social skills, participate in service activities, and meet professional role models. Also, students are strongly encouraged to have 1000 hours of dietetics-related work and/or volunteer experience prior to making DI applications in February of the final year of study. These activities add depth and increased understanding to the academic experience. Expected Learning Outcomes 1. Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and professionally. 2. Demonstrate an understanding of all areas of the nutrition care process and model. 3. Demonstrate professionalism in all required student assignments. 4. Integrate the broad aspects of food into dietetics practice. 5. Demonstrate management and leadership skills as they apply to human and other resources. 6.
