Precision Machining from Buckeye Joint Vocational School is a Campus Certificate Precision Production degree that prepares you for a Engineering career. The Precision Machine lab is equipped with Nardini and Clausing lathes, Cincinnati and K&T mills; Bridgeport & Lagun milling and drilling centers; and Wellsaw bandsaws. The lab is also well equipped with turning, facing, knurling, and threading tools for the lathes. Drills and mills have all sizes of drill bits and end mills. Students are trained to become well acquainted with the machining and forming of metal. First-year students learn basic layout, parts of lathes, grinders, how they work and what they do and, of course, how to run all the machines available. They also receive an introduction to Computer Numerical Control (CNC). They also do some customer service. The second-year students go into more depth from the machining handbook, and more advanced CNC. Most of the customer service is done by the second-year students. The projects done by students come from various drawings and blueprints. After starting on practice parts for the different machines, students advance to increasingly more difficult jobs. Some of these projects include using small band saws and hydraulic jacks.
