French from Butler University is a Campus Bachelor Language degree that prepares you for a Liberal Arts career. A major in French consists of 33 hours in the language , at least 24 of these hours being on the 300 and 400 (upper division) levels. Students are to include in these upper division hours at least one three-hour course in each of the following areas: language skills, literature , and civilization (see categories below) and at least two courses on the 400 level in French. To increase fluency, all upper division courses are conducted completely in French , but one course, designated FL (given in English), may be part of a language major with approval of the department head. Advanced placement credits in French and credits earned in an approved study abroad program count toward majors in French . Students who major in French normally include study abroad in their programs.
