Students who are still enrolled in high school and considering a career in fire science are encouraged to take classes in reading, writing, mathematics and chemistry. The AS Degree The AS degree should be considered a step towards a higher degree or specialized instruction. Students who complete the two-year AS degree will be able to seek employment in many different areas including careers in fire fighting, building inspection and fire prevention.
