The Associate in Science Degree (AS) pre-professional degree program provides the student with a strong foundation in general education, basic science education, mathematics and social sciences. The curriculum prepares students to attain their career and educational goals, primarily in health related fields. The curriculum offers adequate course flexibility for acceptance into degree programs offered at CCHS or to transfer courses to other regionally accredited colleges or universities. It is the intent of the Associate in Science Program to prepare students to: ? develop a level of knowledge that allows them to transfer into professional clinical programs at CCHS, to complete the Associate in Science Degree or continue successfully in upper level courses at CCHS or another college or university; ? demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills in a variety of settings and formats; ? demonstrate knowledge of laboratory techniques and procedures as a generalist in a laboratory setting and the generation and analysis of basic scientific data; ? apply mathematical principles and rules to translate problem situations into symbolic representations and use these representations to solve problems; ? demonstrate effective people skills for working in collaborative situations and with diverse populations; ? demonstrate critical thinking and analysis skills by questioning data, drawing inferences and formulating conclusions based on data available. The Associate in Science Degree will be awarded to students who have successfully completed a minimum 64 credit hours of course work.
