Writing and Literature from California College of the Arts is a Campus Bachelor Writing degree that prepares you for a Liberal Arts career. Students in the Writing and Literature Program make a rigorous investigation of literary traditions and explore the challenging, subtle craft of writing. The program benefits greatly from the Bay Area's rich literary history and dynamic writing culture, and its students become part of CCA's diverse community of artists working in a broad range of media. Faculty members are dedicated to helping students develop a variety of individual, collaborative, and interdisciplinary projects. The curriculum fuses the creative and the practical by offering instruction in the craft of writing while fostering an awareness of the importance of reading, critiquing, and thinking as a writer. First-year students enjoy an exceptional curriculum that enables them to immerse themselves immediately in the program's twin disciplines. In addition to a range of literature courses and workshops in fiction, poetry, and literary nonfiction, the program offers unique courses such as Interdisciplinary Text and Image, in which writers team with students in other programs to produce the college's literary magazine, and a practicum that introduces graduating seniors to professional fields such as teaching and publishing. Graduates will leave the program with a fully developed literary manuscript, a substantial work of critical analysis, and an orientation to the opportunities that lie ahead for them as skilled writers and readers.
