The department's MA program has been producing graduates for more than thirty five years. Program graduates have gone on to Ph.D. programs in sociology, university and college professorships, community college teaching, evaluation and policy research, marketing and consumer research, international relations, organizational analysis, work with non-profit agencies, work in criminology, corrections and criminal justice, and in many other capacities throughout the San Fernando Valley, greater Los Angeles, and beyond. The department has a broadly trained and energetic faculty supporting its MA students. The MA program offers advanced training in core areas of sociology theory and sociological methodology, as well as specialized studies in a number of areas: criminology, gender and sexuality, race and ethnic relations, political sociology and social movements, social psychology, organizational analysis, sociology of education, cultural sociology and media, and globalization. Many of the department's MA students present papers at professional conferences and publish scholarly articles during the course of their graduate studies. Students are also given the opportunity to work with faculty on research projects, and engage in their own research.
