Outline of a Mathematics Major Mathematics majors are individually designed to fit the needs and interests of each student but follow a general pattern or outline. This outline can be divided into three parts: the beginning, the middle, and the end. Beginning: 161, 162, 200-level elective Middle: 256, (possibly 301), 361, and 351 or 355 End: Colloquium, an approved interim and additional 300-level courses matched to your goals and interests. There is some overlap between these sections, but generally speaking, the beginning courses are taken in the first two years; the middle courses, in years two and three; and the end courses in the last two years.
