Building upon the notion that communica?tion skills are critical to career survival in the 21st century, Capital University's Organizational Communication major combines a core of communication courses, social science courses and business courses. In addition to these four areas of study, each student is required to develop an applied emphasis in one of the following areas: conflict manage?ment/human resources, training and development, public administration/community services, international/inter?cultural facilitation, assessment and audit techniques, or corporate video. The courses that make up the communication core are oral communication, interpersonal communication, par?liamentary procedure, business writing, group discussion, public relations, organizational communication, commu?nication theories and either argumentation and debate or public address. In addition to receiving excellent train?ing in communication, students also will receive a strong background in business and the social sciences. Students involved in the organizational communication major will be able to communicate their ideas effectively and have a fundamental understanding of the businesses within which they work. Careers and Placement Graduates may choose from careers in marketing, management, human resources, training, public administration, facilitation, research and development, and event planning, as well as being well pre?pared for graduate study in interpersonal communication, organizational communication, law and rhetoric.
