Dental Assisting from Carver Career Center is a Campus Certificate Dentistry degree that prepares you for a Healthcare career. This 10 month program is designed to provide the basic vocabulary and procedures necessary to function as a dental assistant to the dentist. Prior to going on OJT (on-job-training) students experience in-house clinical rotation in the Carver Dental Clinic located on campus. Students learn American Heart Association, CPR and will take required courses from the West Virginia Dental Board of Examiners to become an Expanded Duty Dental Assistant. Students will also be given the complete series of HBV vaccination and a PPD test. Students study chairside dental assisting (four-handed dentistry, dental materials, dental terminology, dental charting, dental instruments); dental anatomy; laboratory procedures (take and pour impressions, articulate models); radiology techniques (digital radiology, developing and mounting dental radiographs), office procedures (administrative dental software), and an in-house clinical rotation in the Carver Dental Clinic.
