Graduate training includes a wide array of advanced quantitative, qualitative and action techniques taught through courses and one-on-one mentorship. Students learn to integrate theory and method and to apply them to specific substantive issues, which can range from urban problems to health practices of individuals to institutional care and reform. Our doctoral students pursue their education in an intellectually rigorous and dynamic environment that also is informal and friendly. These opportunities include meaningful hands-on involvement in research projects such as managing data collection, writing and publishing collaboratively with faculty, preparing grant applications for research funding, and presenting papers at national and international meetings.
