Central Penn Physical Therapist Assistants work in rehabilitation centers, community agencies, sport programs, geriatric centers, private practices, and hospitals, assisting Physical Therapists in administering treatment programs according to a specified plan of care. This includes training patients in exercises, daily living activities, conducting treatments, using special equipment, administering modalities and reporting to the Physical Therapist regarding the patient's response. Admissions Requirements Prerequisite Courses To enter the Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) program, you must have completed the following secondary school courses: 1 unit of biology 1 unit of chemistry or physics 2 units of math (one of which was algebra) GPA, Class Rank and SAT Score A minimum grade point average of 2.5 overall and in specified courses is required Class rank in the top one-half of the class is required A minimum SAT score of 850 is required Observation Hours Prior to admission to the PTA program, you must complete 20 observation hours in two different physical therapy facilities. It is required that you spend 10 hours in each of the two facilities. A PT or PTA working in each facility must validate all observation hours. The observation verification sheet should be submitted with your admissions packet to Central Pennsylvania College or with your change of major form. Application Deadline There are two separate application deadlines during the calendar year for enrollment into the program. The application deadline to begin during the summer term is March 1st The application deadline to begin during the winter term is November 1st. Thirty students will be accepted each term. All applicants must complete a campus interview with an admissions counselor in order to receive additional information and forms to complete the application process for consideration into the program. The PTA program is a highly competitive program and all applicants will be considered based on information that is submitted to the college. Who will I work for?
