The Emergency Medical Technician program provides students with the academic, field, and clinical preparation necessary to seek employment in the entry levels of the field of emergency medicine. Graduates of these programs will be proficient in basic-level patient assessment, basic management of medicinal and traumatic emergencies and many other vital emergency procedures. Within this program there are two different but potentially sequenced programs of study. The first, the Emergency Medical Technician Basic (EMT-B) certificate program provides both the preparation necessary to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification examination as well as the prerequisite study to engage in the study of the field of Paramedic Technology diploma program offered at Chattahoochee Technical College . Students attend classes for a total of 211 hours, in traditional classroom settings (136 hours) as well as participate in pertinent field and clinical experiences (75 hours). Upon completion of this two quarter course program of study, the student will be eligible to receive an Emergency Medical Technician Basic certificate.
