Commercial Truck Driving from Chattanooga State Technical Community College is a Campus Certificate Land Transport degree that prepares you for a Transportation career. The Chattanooga State Commercial Truck Driving Program is designed to meet the needs of the trucking industry. The program stresses the basic training principles and skills required to operate commercial motor vehicles of all types, sizes and under all driving conditions. Students receive specialized training on the safe operation of a trailer including loading, unloading and docking. Students also receive classroom training on all federal, state and local laws. The Commercial Truck Driving Program is a seven week program that meets Monday through Friday from 8:00am until 2:30pm (216 hours). During the seven weeks, students will log a minimum of 300 driving miles on highway and city roads. Currently, the job placement rate is 100%, and beginning drivers can expect to earn $30,000 to $35,000, which may be supplemented with safety bonuses and other incentives that are offered by a number of companies.
